PRESIDENT JONATHAN VISITS BORNO AND YOBE STATES, SAYS NO AMNESTY FOR BOKO HARAM

President Jonathan has reacted to the call of amnesty for Boko Haram militants, saying his administration would not grant members of the Islamist militant group, Boko Haram amnesty until such a time the group comes out in the public to dialogue with the federal government.

Jonathan said this at a town hall meeting in Damaturu as part of activities earmarked for his state visit to Yobe and Borno State, adding that you do not grant amnesty to people you don’t know.

He compared the Boko Haram Militants with Militants in the Niger delta, saying that unlike Boko Haram, the militants in the Niger Delta are people you know and can talk to whenever you want.

Mr. Jonathan is expected to leave Yobe later tonight for Maiduguri where he is expected to continue the presidential tour tomorrow.

He earlier arrived Maiduguri on a presidential jet, met briefly with the governor of Borno and then flew on a helicopter to Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
